Doulting, Soms. Thanks to Matt Rogers for the photograph. The cast iron panel seems to display the letters "WNFM" but closer inspection suggests that it might in fact be "WMFM". If so, this could stand for William Melliar Foster-Melliar (1836-1906), of North Aston Hall, Deddington, Oxon, who was High Sheriff of Oxfordshire in 1865.The woods at nearby Beacon Hill were owned by Mr. Foster-Melliar and there are reportedly several boundary stones there which are also marked WMFM. A brass plaque (which was still reported in 2013 to be highly polished) is mounted above the original cast iron panel, and reads: | ||||
