A muddle of forgotten pumps at Scaplen's Court Museum, Poole,
Dorset. Thanks to Shawn Shaw for the photos, and for the research that the pump
was formerly sited against the south wall of the Town Cellars, down by the
quay, and furthermore that John Strong was the last mayor of Poole to be chosen
under an obscure old custom which was abolished in 1810. (Read all about it in
