In a field at
Winterbourne, S. Glos. Markings: "867-36" and a panel with the name "THEMAC" on the pump top, and "CLIMAX ENGLAND" on the stopcock. Manufacturer: THEMAC is the trademark of The Metal Agencies Company Ltd, of Bristol. Thomas & Co. of Worcester, who produced the "Climax" range of pumps, and were well-known for their windpumps. Close inspection of the handle of this pump shows the remains of a possible bearing which could indicate that the pump was originally wind-driven. The lack of a bucket hook might support this theory.. |
