Town Council PUBLIC PUMP CROMWELL HILL This Grade II listed public pump, installed in 1805 and financed by public subscription, stands on the site of a pump provided by Thomas Cannock in 1587 and was the town's first water supply. Water from a spring called "Cromwell Well" was conveyed to the pump by a system of lead conduits from Little Cromwell (Cistern House, Beeleigh Road). RESTORED CC WESTON 1748 |

Historic England's website confirms the above, and adds that a stone oval plaque, inscribed "RESTORED CC WESTON ESQ 1748", originally at the pump, is now in the town museum. [Probably C. C. Weston, M.P., of Felix Hall, Kelvedon.] | ||
