At St.
Cyor's Well, Luxulyan, Cornwall. On the right is a photo of the former holy
well, which is now sadly dry. During the construction of a mineral railway to
the south of the village in 1873-4 the stream which supplied the well was
diverted for the cutting for the tramway and this resulted in the water to the
well drying up. The railway company installed a pump within the well enclosure
to retrieve water from a deeper source. This the pump shown on the left,
although most of its workings are now missing. Markings: "PECD" stamped on the fulcrum. Manufacturer: Unk. |
