Cobham (click on photographs to bring up bigger/better versions).
The
octagonal pump in The Street, Cobham, Kent, is chained down and had for some
years lost its lower spout - thanks to Paul Snelling for the photo the left. An
old photo shows that this lower spout was in fact a stopcock, which would have
been necessary to allow selection between the high and low positions. Sometime
around 2023 a replacement spout was fitted, but a 2025 photo (thanks, Chris
Williams, for the photos on the right) also shows some repairs to the upper
spout. Behind it there's a stone inscription: |
