Burghfield Hill, West Berks (click on photograph to bring up bigger/better version).

burghfield hill, 2016 A single throw geared flywheel & crank pump at Burghfield Hill, West Berks. Thanks to Mike Woolford for the 2016 photos, and to Sue Ellis for the 2022 photo on the far right, confirming the manufacturer. An entry in "The Water Supply of Berkshire from Underground Sources" (1902) by J. H. Blake confirms that the borehole for this pump was "bored and communicated in 1896 by Mr. Alfred Callas. Water level 154 ft from the surface".

This low-lying water table would explain the need for the gearing and the hefty counterweight.
